The first office is located at Karolinenstraße 26 in the heart of the city. Commercial, corporate and commercial criminal law were already the main focus of the law firm's work at that time. But soon he too, like all the young men of his age group, is drafted. He is lucky and is assigned to work in Nuremberg. The young law firm is able to maintain its position despite the troubled times. After the end of the First World War there are some quiet years ahead of Thorwart.

Fortunately, his son Hermann, born in 1920 in Nuremberg, also decides in favour of a future in jurisprudence. Like his father, he studied law in Erlangen and completed his studies with a doctorate. In the hope that his son would soon join the firm, Karl Thorwart moves to Frauentorgraben 27, but Hermann Thorwart's professional career is also abruptly interrupted by war. Immediately after passing his bar exams, he is called to the east front, even before his first job as a lawyer. While Hermann had to do military service, his father stayed in Nuremberg and created a historical record in his diaries, which would later serve the Allies as documentation of the war.

Before the devastating night of bombing on January 2, 1945, Dr. Karl Thorwart manages to move the most important files and documents of the firm to Velden in the Nuremberg region. The law firm finds shelter with a client.

Hermann survives the war on the Eastern Front. Father and son now set up the office at Karolinenstraße 16, not far from the first office, and due to growth soon moved it to Karolinenstraße 1 opposite Lorenzkirche. For 14 years the two of them are able to work together hand in hand under the name "Dr. Karl and Dr. Hermann Thorwart". Since 1969 Inge Thorwart, Hermann's wife, also works as a German specialist in the law firm.

For 33 years the company will be known in the following as Thorwart Zech & Partner. This partnership is the basis for expansion and the sharpening of the firm's profile as a business law consultancy. A constellation of comprehensive advice on complex legal issues in a wide range of specializations, which was still quite unusual among lawyers at that time. Over the years, this became the trademark of the firm.

Only a short time after the merger with Dr. Dieter Zech, another Thorwart, Carl Otto, is about to join the firm. Since the firm is constantly growing, the premises have to be changed once again. In 1988, the firm jointly builds at Arminiusstrasse 2.

It is the partner city of Nuremberg, Gera in Thuringia. This location is still the most important pillar of THORWART, alongside the headquarters in Nuremberg. The set-up in Gera is entrusted to the Nuremberg lawyer Kerstin J. Thorwart and the tax consultant Marion Herrmann. From 1990, tax consultancy, insolvency administration and corporate restructuring are established and expanded in the Central German region. Dr. Hermann and Carl Otto Thorwart personally accompany the expansion. Carl Otto Thorwart is particularly in demand for advice on commercial and corporate law as well as trademark and competition law. In this context, he also represents several local authorities, municipalities, counties and districts, in Thuringia and Saxony.

The intense and continuous work at the firm bears outstanding fruit: The "JUVE Handbook of Commercial Law Firms" published by JUVE-Verlag named Thorwart Zech & Partner "Law Firm of the Year" in the category South - Bavaria (excluding Munich).

Under Carl Otto Thorwart, the law firm is reorganized and restructured. With the new premises at Stadtpark 2, the firm now operates on the market under the name "THORWART Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater Wirtschaftsprüfer".

The great sympathy for his death is not only due to his outstanding commitment as a lawyer and valued Rotary past district governor. Together with his partner and wife, Kerstin J. Thorwart, he also shows outstanding social commitment in the reconstruction of an obstetrics clinic in Sri Lanka, where they both survived the 2004 tsunami. Through ROTARY International, the two organise rapid aid on site. To this day Kerstin J. Thorwart accompanies and supports the obstetrics clinic in the island state. In 2015 she was the first European to be awarded the title "Global Woman of Action" at the United Nations.

The gentle release from the personal ties of the former family business is also an investment in the future and the continued existence on the market. The company, which now has eight locations in Bavaria, Thuringia, Berlin and Saxony, has been operating under the name "THORWART Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater Wirtschaftsprüfer Partnerschaft mbB" since 2014. Kerstin J. Thorwart's more than 25 years of experience as a lawyer and insolvency administrator has made restructuring advice a firm part of the firm's expertise. Together with the partners Alexander Frey and Prof. Dr. Rolf Otto Seeling, the commercial law firm today offers high quality advice on company law and employment law. The partners Danny Hinkelthein and Christiane Eifler continue the traditional areas of trademark and competition law and complement the firm's expertise with copyright and media law as well as insolvency and insurance law. With partner Simone Binder, the generational change in tax consultancy has also been completed.

The exclusive ranking carried out by the Handelsblatt shows the best tax consultants in the 30 largest cities in Germany. The Social Science Institute Schad (S.W.I.) analysed 1,372 tax consultants by taking into account the aspects of employment of specialist consultants, basic knowledge and professional competence. The evaluation was prepared according to cities, subject areas and sectors.

In the category "Law Firm of the Year for Medium-Sized Businesses", JUVE recognizes the overall development, especially the management performance, of the law firms. In addition to the focus on advising small and medium-sized businesses, the decisive factors also include client orientation, law firm culture, junior staff policy, profitability, staff growth and expansion into new business areas or markets.

The nominations are based on the extensive research conducted by the JUVE editorial team for the annual JUVE Handbook of Commercial Law Firms. The selection process is accompanied by numerous interviews with clients, partners, junior lawyers and judges. Approximately 20,000 of them are gathered annually during the research period.

The JUVE editorial team nominates five law firms in each of 15 categories. In addition, strong legal departments are also awarded in three categories.
